Step-By-Step Procedure To Make Neem Face Wash At Home

Let’s look at the steps to create a homemade Neem face wash. Ensure you have read this procedure once or twice before attempting the process.

1. Choose an appropriate soap.

Take any mild soap and cut it into smaller pieces. You can also grate them using any food grater. The ideal requirement to make this facewash is 80-90 gms. Depending on the size of the soap, you can either use half or three-fourths of it.

2. Prepare the soap-liquid solution.

Transfer the soap into a container, and add lukewarm water to it. Using a spoon or a whisker, mix the two items properly. Avoid adding cold water as it will not mix with the soap.

Ensure that there are no chunks of soap remaining in this mixture. On completing, keep the container aside for 5-7 minutes.

3. Grab Neem Leaves

Take the neem leaves and wash them thoroughly. If required, you may clean it twice or thrice. On cleaning the leaves, segregate them from their stem.

If you have purchased dry neem leaves from a local grocery store, boil and strain the leaves before using them.

4. Create a paste using the Neem Leaves

Add the paste into the soap-liquid solution

Transfer the leaves into a mixer-grinder. Add a cup of room temperature water to the jar and create a paste. The consistency of this paste should resemble a chutney’s

Use a strainer to pour the paste into the soap-water container and mix it. To get the most out of this paste, you can take a spoon and press it on the filter properly – as it will ensure less wastage of the product.

(Author’s Note: To avoid absolute wastage of the semi-solid paste, you can use it as a face or body scrub.)

5. Prepare Katira Gond

Take one tbsp of Katira Gond / Tragacanth gum and soak it in water. Once the gum rises and increases in quantity, create a paste using the same mixer-grinder. Ensure that the Katira Gond has a semi-solid, paste-like consistency.

Once the Tragacanth gum paste is ready, add it to the container and mix it. To get the best results, use a whisker to avoid lumps in this mixture.

Tragacanth gum is one of the essential ingredients of this face wash. It helps in fighting acne and is also responsible for making the skin radiant

This step is optional. However, we recommend adding this step to your DIY homemade neem face wash for effective results.

Add one tsp of Glycerin to the mixture and use a whisker to avoid concentration.

Glycerin is one of the best humectants, which means that it relieves the skin of dryness and helps the skin retain moisture. It also protects the skin from harmful micro-organisms.

For better results, we recommend using natural aloe vera gel. However, you can purchase a bottle of aloe vera gel off the shelf if the plant-based gel is not available.

8. Add your favorite essential oils.

Depending on what skin issues you want to combat, add four to five drops of any essential oil. You can add almond oil or vitamin E capsules for glowing skin.

Here’s a list of various essential oils that you can use to combat the skin issue that annoys you the most –

  1. Dry Skin: Lavender, Sandalwood, or Chamomile oil.
